Perpetual Calendar 25657OR

25 500

Description

In the late ’70s, amid the Quartz Crisis, three Audemars Piguet watchmakers secretly developed the world’s thinnest automatic perpetual calendar movement. Working in their free time, they presented the finished calibre to CEO George Golay in 1977. Golay, a risk-taker who launched the Royal Oak, successfully commercialized the Quantième Perpetuel in 1978. By 1984, Audemars Piguet had produced 675 of the 1,066 perpetual calendars made in Switzerland, with 7,219 made over fifteen years. Designed by Jacqueline Dimier, the Quantième Perpetuel ref. 25657 (1982-1993) featured intuitive perpetual calendar displays, recessed subdials, and a vintage “Audemars Piguet” font. The 36mm, sub-8mm thick case housed the Caliber 2120/2, derived from Jaeger-LeCoultre’s JLC 920. This ultra-thin automatic movement featured 38 jewels, a Gyromax balance, and a full-diameter rotor with Geneva stripes and a 21-carat gold edge. It remains the thinnest full-rotor self-winding movement, renowned for its technical refinement.

Watch condition

Very nice overall condition with slight oxidation on the dial.
